How to Transcribe a WhatsApp Voice Message to Text Privately
Save a WhatsApp voice message and transcribe it locally in your browser without uploading the recording to LocalScribe.
What you need
- A WhatsApp voice message that you are allowed to transcribe.
- A way to save or share the message as a local audio file.
- A current browser with enough memory and processing time for the recording.
LocalScribe does not connect to your WhatsApp account, read chats, or fetch messages. You decide which saved audio file to open.
How to turn the voice message into text
- Save or export the message. Use WhatsApp’s Share or Save option where available and store the audio on your device. The exact menu depends on WhatsApp, your operating system, and whether you use the mobile or desktop app.
- Open the audio transcription tool. Go to LocalScribe Audio to Text.
- Select the saved file. Drag it onto the page or use the file picker. If your browser cannot decode the format, convert an authorized copy to a commonly supported format such as MP3, WAV, or M4A first.
- Choose the spoken language. Automatic detection is convenient; selecting the known language can make the workflow more predictable.
- Start transcription. The first use may need time to download and initialize the speech-recognition model.
- Review and export. Correct names, numbers, and punctuation, then copy the text or download TXT, SRT, or VTT.
What stays private—and what uses the network
The selected voice message is decoded and transcribed in your browser. LocalScribe does not upload the recording or completed transcript to a LocalScribe transcription server.
Loading the website and downloading model files still create ordinary network requests to the site host and model provider. Those providers can receive standard request metadata such as an IP address and user agent. See the privacy policy for the complete boundary.
If the file does not open
- Check that the download completed and the file plays normally on your device.
- Try a current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.
- Save an authorized copy as MP3, WAV, or M4A if the original codec is not supported by your browser.
- For a long message on a low-memory device, close other heavy tabs or split the recording into smaller files.
Review before sharing
Automatic transcription can mishear names, numbers, accents, quiet speech, or words under background noise. Compare important passages with the original recording. If the voice message contains another person’s private or sensitive information, obtain appropriate permission before transcribing or sharing it.
